4-on-4-off schedule example
A crew works four consecutive 12-hour shifts and then has four complete days off. The eight-day cycle moves forward through the weekdays, so weekends are shared over time. Two day crews and two night crews, offset by four days, can cover a 24/7 operation.

- Set a reference date that matches the first working day for one known crew.
- Choose the correct fixed day or night crew and check the first eight days against the live rota.
- Generate several months because an eight-day cycle never stays aligned to the same weekdays.
- Mark leave and approved swaps as exceptions, then print or save a dated master PDF.

Check the complete cycle rather than a single calendar week. Confirm the crew reference date against a roster already in use, then review role coverage, planned leave, training, and overtime. Keep one dated master copy so an approved swap does not create competing versions.

At 12 hours per shift, each eight-day cycle contains 48 working hours. Over time that averages about 42 hours per seven-day week.
How often do you get weekends off?
Because the pattern repeats every eight days, days off move through the week. You receive full weekends periodically, but not on a fixed every-other-week rhythm.
